Are you thinking - "What? A homeschool mission statement? I never thought about needing that!" Well, here are some things you might want to consider.
The beginning of a new school year is an excellent time to write or review your homeschool mission statement.
Here in Midwestern United States, the relentless heat of summer has finally relented. Cooler evenings give just a hint of an approaching fall. Yellow school buses criss-cross the countryside, transporting students to public schools.
Home schools are buzzing with activity as a new year begins, full of opportunity and excitement!
Having a homeschooling mission statement can be helpful on those rough days when you wonder what you were thinking when you decided to homeschool?!
Yes, we have rough days too - days when bad attitudes abound, selfishness seems to multiply, and the love of learning is focused on learning how to annoy siblings!
Don't despair. Stay on track. Pray daily for God's help. This job is bigger than we are, and we need His wisdom and grace!
Pull out that homeschool mission statement and keep moving forward.
And may I suggest something to put on your mission statement?
I firmly believe that our greatest possible goal in homeschooling is to bring glory to Jesus Christ. The late Christopher Klicka, in his book Homeschool Heroes, gives these powerful truths:
"God is blessing the homeschool movement. This is not because people are homeschooling for the sake of homeschooling; rather, they are homeschooling for the glory and honor of God. If parents and homeschool leaders ever relegate Jesus Christ to second place, the movement will begin to falter."
As we dive into another school year, lets make it our school's number one goal to raise sons and daughters that will bring glory to Jesus Christ. This is true success!
Glad to be dad,
